LEAKAGE OF METHANE IN CALIFORNIA COMPLETELY ELIMINATEDFebruary 29, 2016
Rupture of the pipe that caused the largest in the history of California methane gas leak was finally eliminated.
According to authorities, a series of independent laboratory tests confirmed that the pipe was successfully sealed. This will allow thousands of people to finally return home.
More than 6,600 families residing in Porter Ranch, had to be moved after a powerful greenhouse gas began to fill the air with the smell of rotten eggs. The leak caused a significant deterioration of the health of local residents: they suffered from headaches, nosebleeds and nausea.
Southern California Gas Co, which owns the pipeline, have been charged for the fact that the company has not informed the authorities about the leak in October, when it has only just begun.
Local, state and regional authorities, as well as dozens of residents are suing the corporation, which will have to spend $ 300 million to repair the pipeline and costs associated with the move.
As a result of the accident from the ground left 80,000 tons of methane that caused Governor Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency.
Some environmentalists have called it the worst environmental disaster in the United States since the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010.
